US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on goods from dozens of countries, including Uzbekistan. The highest tariffs were applied to products from China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, as announced by Trump's executive order.

Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in the US economy, granting himself broad powers to impose tariffs. According to the President's order, unbalanced tariff rates and the lack of mutual equality in bilateral trade relations—especially the US trade deficit—pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the country's national security.

The President stated that the US will calculate the total tariff rates imposed by other countries on American products and set a tariff rate equal to half of that.

According to a table presented by Trump:

- The tariff rate for the European Union is 20 percent,
- Taiwan: 32 percent,
- Japan: 24 percent,
- South Africa: 30 percent,
- Switzerland: 31 percent.

A minimum basic tariff of 10% has been set for countries such as the United Kingdom, Egypt, Turkey, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Singapore, and Uzbekistan.

The US President also proposed a method for reducing the tariff rate to zero: products and goods must be produced in the United States. According to him, mutual tariffs will usher in a "golden age" for the US, with "jobs and factories returning to the US with a bang."

Additionally, starting on April 3, the US will impose a 25% tariff on imports of cars, light trucks, and auto parts.

Donald Trump also imposed a 10% tariff on the uninhabited Heard and McDonald Islands. These islands, which have a population of zero, are home to a large penguin population. The most remote landmass in the world, located in the southern Indian Ocean, consists of Heard and McDonald Islands, which are external territories of Australia.

“Trump’s new tariffs on China are added to the previous ones, bringing the total tariff on Chinese imports to 54 percent,” said the US Treasury Secretary.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen referred to the Central Asia-EU summit, set to begin today, April 3, in Samarkand, as part of Europe’s response to US tariffs. The Central Asia-EU summit is considered an element of the EU’s strategy to diversify its trade relations with foreign partners in response to US tariffs.
