Man detained for smuggling 16 kg of drugs from Tajikistan

A man who brought 16 kilograms of drugs from Tajikistan into Uzbekistan has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, the State Security Service reported.
On November 12, 2024, during an operation in Namangan region, a Lacetti car was stopped in Pop district. Upon inspection, in the presence of witnesses, authorities discovered 3.887 kilograms of opium and 9.839 kilograms of hashish in the luggage of a passenger born in 1984. The substances were properly documented.
Pre-investigation revealed that the man had colluded with a Tajik citizen to smuggle and sell narcotics from Tajikistan for profit. He had received the drugs in Buka district of Tashkent region.
Further investigative actions uncovered that the suspect had also hidden 1.902 kilograms of opium, 857 grams of hashish, a Makarov pistol, 2 bullets, and 18 cartridges on his property in Dangara district. These items had been delivered to Buka district by a Tajik drug dealer between August and September 2024.
The Pap District Criminal Court found the man guilty under Articles 28, 246 (smuggling), and Articles 25, 273 (illegal preparation, possession, and trafficking of narcotic drugs) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
Previously, a man was detained in Tashlak district of Fergana region for cultivating 103 poppy plants and 118 cannabis plants on his land.
