Traffic safety concerns raised after pedestrian hit in Tashkent

On May 2, a pedestrian was struck by a BYD vehicle while crossing at a designated crosswalk in Yashnobod district, Tashkent, according to the capital’s Road Traffic Safety Department.
At 16:05, the driver of the BYD was traveling through the Nukus-Fergena road intersection when they failed to yield to a pedestrian crossing the street, resulting in an accident.
Emergency medical personnel provided immediate first aid to the injured pedestrian, while the Tashkent City Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit launched a preliminary investigation into the incident.
Earlier, in Samarkand city, a 1997-born driver of a Lacetti vehicle struck multiple pedestrians at a crosswalk, leading to one fatality and injuries to four others. A criminal case was opened under Article 266, Part 2, of the Criminal Code, and the driver was placed in custody.
