A group of residents illegally built swimming pools on the rooftops of multi-storey buildings in Samarkand city, Samarkand region. The regional territorial inspection for supervision in the field of construction and housing and communal services reported the incident.
During recent inspections, authorities discovered that in two separate cases, swimming pools had been constructed without authorization on the penthouse levels of apartments on the ninth floor of Building No. 77 on Rudaki Street in Samarkand.
“These structures were not part of the original design of the building and may compromise its seismic stability by increasing vibrations during an earthquake,” the inspection report stated.
As a result, inspectors issued mandatory instructions to the individuals involved. Administrative measures are also being taken under the relevant section of Article 159 of Uzbekistan’s Code of Administrative Responsibility, which addresses violations related to the maintenance and use of residential premises, as well as housing management regulations.
The agency added that if the residents fail to voluntarily remove the structures and restore the building to its original condition within the given timeframe, a lawsuit will be filed in civil court to enforce the removal.
It is worth recalling that at the end of last year, construction at a kindergarten in the Navoi region was suspended after serious defects were discovered. The poorly executed work was subsequently demolished on site.
