A two-year-old Uzbek girl who was left without parental care in Russia was repatriated to Uzbekistan on May 16, according to the Children’s Ombudsman.

A petition was received from a woman identified as N.G., a resident of Sariosiyo District in the Surkhandarya Region. In her plea, N.G. explained that her underage granddaughter, D.R., born in 2023, was left without proper guardianship in Russia because her father is currently detained and her mother is held in a migration center. At the time of the petition, the child was being treated at a children’s hospital in Nizhny Novgorod. N.G. requested practical assistance with returning her granddaughter to Uzbekistan.

In response, the Children’s Ombudsman, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and representatives of Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Russia coordinated their efforts. The necessary documentation was processed, and measures were implemented to repatriate the child. Furthermore, through consular efforts, the girl’s mother was also returned to Uzbekistan along with her child.

It is noteworthy that earlier this year, on April 14, another underage Uzbek citizen—who had been deceived into traveling to Turkey and subsequently found herself in a complicated situation—was also repatriated.
