Cases of illegal admissions to higher education institutions have been uncovered in Tashkent and Fergana, the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan reported.
According to the agency, a department teacher at Tashkent State University of Economics was caught red-handed accepting a $4,000 bribe. The arrest took place during a special operation conducted by the Tashkent City Department of the SSS in cooperation with the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The teacher allegedly used his official contacts to arrange the admission of a Tashkent-based applicant into the university in exchange for the bribe. Material evidence was recovered during the operation.
In a separate incident in the Fergana region, a department teacher at Fergana State University used his position to forge documentation through high-ranking colleagues. The fake certificate stated that a Fergana resident held a boxing degree, which was then used to facilitate the applicant’s admission to the university’s military education faculty. In return, the teacher received $3,800.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against both individuals, and investigations are currently underway.
