Man detained in Namangan for demanding $26,000 to arrange Hajj trip

A man has been detained for demanding $26,000 in exchange for arranging a pilgrimage to Hajj, the State Security Service reported.
According to the report, the suspect, born in 1984 and residing in Namangan, offered to illegally send four residents of Chust District to Saudi Arabia for the “Hajj-2026” season to perform one of the main obligations of Islam.
During a special operation conducted in Chust District in cooperation with special services, the suspect was caught red-handed while receiving $6,000 of the requested amount. Material evidence was secured at the scene.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 168 (fraud), Part 4(a) of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.
Earlier, similar fraud cases related to organizing Umrah pilgrimages were uncovered in Tashkent and Syrdarya Region.
