Mirziyoyev talks with Putin

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a phone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, on August 17, the president’s press service reported.
During the talks, the leaders discussed pressing issues on the agenda. The Russian President provided an update on the main outcomes of the Alaska summit, held in Anchorage on August 15 this year.
President Mirziyoyev expressed his support for negotiations and voiced hope that the conflict in Ukraine would be resolved soon.
They also discussed measures to maintain the current pace of bilateral cooperation in trade and the economy, as well as to accelerate strategic cooperation projects between Uzbek and Russian enterprises. Both leaders emphasized the importance of continuing active communication and exchanges.
It is worth noting that Putin and Trump held a meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15. The summit concluded at 04:25 Tashkent time on August 16. Both leaders took part in a press conference following their meeting.
Before the press conference, the leaders had held negotiations in a three-on-three format, which lasted about two hours and 45 minutes. Trump highlighted that progress had been made on many issues, though no agreement had been reached regarding Ukraine. Calling the negotiations fruitful, Putin expressed Russia’s readiness to work with Ukraine on security issues. The leaders did not take questions from journalists.
Earlier, Mirziyoyev met with Putin within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union summit in Minsk on June 27. According to Russian news agencies, they discussed Ukraine at that time as well. In addition, Mirziyoyev spoke with Putin by phone on July 8.
Before Mirziyoyev, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for Putin’s meeting in Anchorage, calling it the beginning of the highest-level negotiation process on Ukraine. According to Tokayev, this historic summit was made possible by the political will and sincere intentions of both countries’ leaders, who demonstrated their readiness to agree on resolving the conflict in Ukraine and addressing global issues.
