A joint humanitarian demining unit will be established within the framework of the CIS

It is planned to establish a joint engineering unit for humanitarian demining within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This was discussed today, 12 October at a meeting of the heads of Staff of the Armed Forces of the CIS countries, which was held in Baku. It was attended by the military delegations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the Secretariat of the CIS Council of Ministers of Defense.
“The meeting summarizes the experience of operation of the unified system of monitoring and assessment of the state of the forces of radiation, chemical, and biological protection and identifies the directions of its further development. Practical issues of formation and training of the joint engineering unit for humanitarian demining of the armed forces of the Commonwealth of Nations have been agreed,” - the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation reported.
In addition, the meeting participants identified ways to improve the training of specialists in the use of unmanned aerial vehicle systems for the Armed Forces of the CIS countries.
Issues of military cooperation between the countries until 2025 were also discussed.
“During the joint work, the heads of delegations exchanged views on the emerging military and political situation in the world, and analyzed the direction of changes in threats to the security and regional stability of the CIS countries”, - the statement said.
In addition, the directions of further development of mutual cooperation between the military agencies of the CIS countries have been determined.
“On the basis of common approaches defined in the concept of military cooperation of the CIS members until 2025, the heads of the General Staff discussed ways of further development of cooperation in the military sphere, paying special attention to the active implementation of joint measures on military cooperation” – the report stated.
