This year, May was marked by an exceptionally high temperature background. For most of the month, the average daily air temperature was 4–6 degrees above the climatic norm, and during some periods, 7–9 degrees above normal. This was reported by Uzhydromet.

It was noted that only in the final days of May did humid and relatively cool air masses associated with cyclonic circulation in the middle troposphere reach the territory of Uzbekistan.

From May 27 until the end of the month, a low temperature background persisted. Daytime temperatures did not exceed 25–30 degrees, and in some areas dropped to 20–23 degrees.

In May 2025, the average monthly air temperature was 2.5–4.5 degrees above the climatic norm. The past May ranked among the top three warmest Mays in all regions of the republic.

In most regions of Uzbekistan, including Tashkent, May 2025 was the warmest May ever recorded in the history of meteorological observations.

On the hottest days, maximum air temperatures reached summer levels — 37–40 degrees — while in the north, south, and desert areas, temperatures soared to 41–43 degrees, and in the western part of the Kyzylkum Desert, up to 45 degrees.

It was also reported that May was not only extremely hot but also exceptionally dry.

In the Khorezm, Bukhara, Surkhandarya regions, and most areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as in the Navoi, Samarkand, and Kashkadarya regions, monthly precipitation ranged from 0 to 10 percent of the norm.

In the northern, desert, and southern parts of the country, such dry Mays occur on average once every 7 to 9 years.

For example, in Samarkand, rainfall in May amounted to 0.0 mm — only the third time this has occurred in the century-long history of meteorological records.

The highest rainfall relative to the norm was recorded in the foothill and mountainous areas of the Fergana Valley — in some places reaching 60–80% of the norm, and at the Kokand meteorological station, 103%. In other regions, monthly rainfall amounted to 20–50% of the norm. Precipitation fell mainly during several days in the third decade of the month.

Mudflows and floods were recorded in the Surkhandarya, Namangan, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, and Fergana regions.

In some parts of the country, wind speeds reached 15–20 meters per second, with occasional intensities of up to 22–25 meters per second.

In desert and extreme southern regions of the republic, strong winds were occasionally accompanied by dust storms.

On May 17, a dust storm was observed in Tashkent as a result of high winds along an atmospheric front. Strong gusts lifted large amounts of sand and dust into the air, which, combined with dust blown in from southern Kazakhstan, significantly reduced visibility.

In the capital, high dust levels persisted in some areas until 22:00.
