Construction of schools and kindergartens to be financed by local budgets (video)

From 2026, expenses for the construction, reconstruction, and major renovation of academic lyceums, preschool education institutions, and general and specialized schools will be transferred from the Republican budget to local budgets. This was announced on 3 December during a regular session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis by Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Qo‘chqorov.

According to the information, starting from 2026, the maintenance of academic lyceums, as well as the design, construction (including reconstruction), and overhaul of preschool institutions, general education schools, and specialized school facilities will be financed from the budgets of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions, and the city of Tashkent.

In this regard, the parameters of the republican budget project include allocations to support local budgets as follows: in 2026, a total of 19.7 trillion soums in regulatory inter-budgetary transfers, of which 3.6 trillion soums will be directed from excise tax revenues.

These changes aim to increase the responsibility and independence of local authorities in developing educational infrastructure and to allow school and kindergarten construction and renovation to better reflect regional needs and priorities.

It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that from the next academic year, schools, technical colleges, and universities in Uzbekistan will begin teaching artificial intelligence to students.
