Economic court reforms: Nearly 400 rulings canceled in Uzbekistan in 2024

In 2024, economic courts in Uzbekistan overturned 390 rulings and modified 253 decisions, according to the Supreme Court’s press service.  

Over the past year, 436,102 cases were reviewed by first-instance economic courts, resulting in the recovery of 27.5 trillion sums in favor of plaintiffs. The highest number of cases was handled by courts in Tashkent city, Tashkent, Surkhandarya, Jizzakh, and Fergana regions.  

A significant portion of cases—68,567 in total—were related to the legal protection of small businesses and private entrepreneurs, with 6.7 trillion sums awarded in their favor.  

Key trends in economic court cases  
The most common disputes handled by the courts involved:  
- Suspension of bank account operations  
- Product delivery and utility service disputes  
- Inability to pay debts  
- Credit agreement disputes  

Appeals and higher court reviews  
- Appeal courts reviewed 6,257 cases, overturning 852 decisions and modifying 607 rulings.  
- Cassation courts examined 2,250 cases, overturning 390 rulings and modifying 253 decisions.  
- Audit procedures led to the review of 2,360 cases, with 255 rulings overturned and 94 modified.  
- The Supreme Court’s trial panel reviewed 426 cases, canceling 136 lower court decisions and modifying 30 rulings.  

Earlier, it was also reported that 2,720 cases concerning the annulment of governor's decisions were completed in 2024, with 933 applications from individuals and businesses granted.
