The Champions Chess Tour 2023 is currently taking place in Toronto, Canada. Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattarov, participating in the event, advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament.

The final round includes 8 grandmasters who achieved the best results in 6 major chess competitions throughout the year.

Abdusattorov secured 4th place in the preliminaries but lost to American Fabiano Caruana in an additional match during the quarterfinals.

Competing against American chess player Hikaru Nakamura, Abdusattorov tied the first 2 games, leading to an Armageddon tiebreaker. Despite having 5.5 minutes less time than his opponent, he secured the win and advanced to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Abdusattarov will face either American Wesley So or Norwegian Magnus Carlsen. So, the winner of the qualifying round, has the privilege to choose his opponent—either Abdusattarov or Caruana.

The tournament's winner will receive $200,000, while the runner-up will get $100,000. Additionally, the two semi-final losers will each receive $50,000, which Abdusattorov has already earned.

The semi-finals are scheduled for today and tomorrow.
