Uzbekistan introduces water metering requirements for underground water

The procedure for equipping underground water intake facilities with water metering devices has been officially established. This requirement is outlined in the administrative regulation “On the provision of state services for registration and sealing of equipment of underground water intake facilities with water metering devices,” approved by a government resolution on August 28.

According to the regulation, this state service will be provided through public service centers or the State Service for the Provision of Water Meters. The use of underground water intake facilities without approved water metering devices is prohibited. Only water metering devices listed in the State Register of Measuring Devices in the Republic of Uzbekistan are permitted for installation.

Water metering devices must be installed before the water outlet control device in pump wells and after the control device in fountain wells and springs. A fee equivalent to 50 percent of the basic calculation amount, or 206,000 soums, will be charged for the provision of public services.

Regional hydrogeological stations and district (city) tax inspectorates will register and seal water metering devices at groundwater intake facilities within 10 days of receiving a request.

The new procedure will come into force on November 30, 2025.
