The construction of a single small reactor unit at the nuclear power plant site in Uzbekistan is expected to provide Russian enterprises with orders worth up to 2 trillion rubles (approximately $24.7 billion) and create around 1,000 jobs. This was stated by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, in remarks to journalists.
“We have many partners in Russia, both among private companies and those with state participation. Even the construction of just one small unit will generate orders worth up to 2 trillion rubles. In terms of employment, this means the creation of about 1,000 jobs directly in the Russian Federation. From a macroeconomic efficiency standpoint, every ruble invested during the construction phase will return up to 1.5 rubles, and up to 2 rubles during the plant’s operation phase,” Likhachev said.
It is worth noting that earlier, within the framework of events held in Tashkent and at the future construction site in Forish district of Jizzakh region, key documents on strategic cooperation were signed and the first concrete pouring phase was officially launched. The documents were signed by Azim Akhmedkhodjaev, Director of the Uzatom Agency, and Alexey Likhachev.
Currently, work is underway to prepare the concrete foundation beneath the reactor building. This stage is scheduled for completion in April this year. Nearly 900 cubic meters of concrete mixture will be laid. Upon completion, the foundation will include waterproofing and grounding systems for the reactor building.
