Starting in 2026, Uzbekistan will hold the “Teacher of the Year” competition once every two years. This was confirmed in a government resolution titled “On Measures to Organize and Hold the ‘Teacher of the Year’ and ‘Professional Mastery’ Competitions Among Employees of General Secondary Education,” adopted on April 28.
According to the resolution, two major competitions will be conducted biennially:
- The “Teacher of the Year” competition, aimed at educators working in general secondary schools under the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
- The “Professional Mastery” competition, designed for directors of pedagogical mastery centers.
Regulations outlining the procedures for each competition have been approved.
Winners of these competitions will receive a QR-coded certificate and a cash prize of 1,400 times the base calculation (MOU)—equivalent to 525 million sums.
It should be noted that during a meeting with education professionals in September last year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to institutionalize the “Teacher of the Year” competition. He also promised that the winning educators from all 208 districts and cities would be awarded housing. Additionally, the number of teachers sent to sanatoriums and recreation centers would be doubled annually.
