A cold anticyclone is moving into Uzbekistan, which may lead to the accumulation of pollutants and fine particulate matter in the atmosphere. Uzhydromet has issued a warning in this regard.

According to the agency, the cold anticyclone will enter the country gradually. During this period, atmospheric air circulation is expected to weaken, which may result in the buildup of pollutants and fine particles (PM2.5/PM10) in the air. This, in turn, could lead to an increase in air pollution levels. The situation is expected to persist for up to three days.

As the influence of the anticyclone intensifies, air temperatures are forecast to decline across almost all regions of the country by January 16–17. Daytime temperatures will also drop, while colder conditions are expected during nighttime and early morning hours.

At the same time, precipitation is also forecast as a result of the anticyclone. In some areas, short-term rainfall or snowfall is expected. Precipitation and wind are likely to help wash out fine particles accumulated in the atmosphere, which may temporarily improve air quality.
