Uzbekistan reports 86.5 billion soums in electricity and gas theft in one month

Uzbekistan suffered damages amounting to 86.5 billion soums due to the illegal use of energy resources in August of this year, the Inspectorate for the control of the use of electricity, petroleum products, and gas reported. 

According to the report, Uzenergoinspeksiya, together with law enforcement agencies, uncovered 179 cases of unauthorized use of energy resources by consumers during inspections conducted over the past month.

As a result, 36.8 million kWh of electricity (valued at 58.9 billion soums) and 8.7 million cubic meters of natural gas (valued at 27.5 billion soums) were stolen, causing a total recalculated damage of 86.57 billion soums. Additionally, 476 administrative cases were initiated against violations of energy usage regulations by consumers.

The statement noted that appropriate measures have been taken against the offenders, and the relevant documents have been submitted to law enforcement authorities.

It is worth noting that it was revealed in July of this year that illegal use of energy resources had caused damage of 96 billion soums to the system. In particular, 27.1 million kWh of electricity (worth 54.9 billion soums) and 12.6 million cubic meters of natural gas (worth 41.1 billion soums) were stolen.
