According to the agency, the allocation or sale of land plots is strictly regulated by the Land Code. Article 17 of the code specifies that foreign citizens, legal entities, stateless persons, and enterprises with foreign investments can only obtain land plots on a lease basis.
Furthermore, Article 24 states that land plots can be leased to enterprises with foreign investments, international organizations, and foreign individuals or legal entities. However, the law explicitly prohibits the privatization of land by foreign citizens, stateless persons, foreign legal entities, or enterprises with foreign investments. Additionally, state institutions, organizations, and self-governing bodies are also excluded from being privatization subjects.
It is also important to note that even Uzbek citizens cannot privatize agricultural land.
The Cadastre Agency emphasized that the rumors about land being handed over to foreigners are baseless and unverified. They urged citizens not to fall for misleading information and called on social media users to refrain from spreading false claims.
“Such unverified reports can lead to public dissatisfaction, mistrust in laws, and even negatively impact the investment climate,” the statement warned.
For further clarity, the agency reiterated that Uzbekistan’s land laws are designed to protect national interests and ensure transparency in land allocation processes.
