Reports circulated on social media that the headless body of an Uzbek woman was found in Istanbul, Turkey. Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Istanbul has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
According to confirmed information, on January 24 at around 7:40 p.m., a local resident collecting discarded items discovered a wrapped body inside a garbage container in Istanbul’s Şişli district and immediately informed law enforcement authorities. An initial examination revealed that the body was missing its head.
Following joint investigations conducted by the Consulate General in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, the forensic medical institute, and the prosecutor’s office, the deceased was identified as H.D., a citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In connection with the case, two Uzbek citizens were detained while attempting to flee Turkey to Georgia by air. Diplomatic staff of the Consulate General have established contact with the victim’s family members and are providing them with the necessary consular and legal assistance.
The investigation has been taken under the supervision of the Consulate General, which stated that further information will be provided through official sources.
According to Turkish media reports, the incident occurred in the Duatepe neighborhood on Kuyulubağ Street at approximately 8:00 p.m. A paper collector identified as O.Ch. discovered a body wrapped in a bedsheet inside a trash container and notified the police.
During the initial inspection, authorities confirmed that the body belonged to a woman, but the head was missing. Police cordoned off the area and launched an extensive investigation. The victim’s head and severed legs were not found during the search.
Based on witness statements, a suitcase allegedly carried by the suspects was later found on Bozkurt Street in the same neighborhood and taken as evidence.
Police stated that the murder was committed by a 31-year-old Uzbek citizen identified as D., a construction worker who was reportedly in a close relationship with the victim. Another construction worker, G. (29), is believed to have assisted him.
After reviewing footage from hundreds of surveillance cameras, investigators determined that the suspects were heading to the airport in an attempt to flee to Georgia. Following an operation lasting approximately eight hours, the suspects were apprehended before leaving the country. A third individual, identified as E.K., was also detained as a suspect, bringing the total number of detainees to three.
One of the detained suspects reportedly confessed, stating:
“We met the victim on the day of the incident. A relationship began between us, then we argued. I killed her with a knife. Later, together with my friend, we dismembered the body in a house in Ümraniye. We placed the body parts in bags and a suitcase, then took a taxi to Şişli and disposed of the body and its parts in different garbage containers.”
