Earlier, Rasul Kusherbayev, advisor to the Minister of Ecology, reported that 144 trees had been cut down in Tashkent’s Yakkasaray district in violation of the moratorium. However, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change has clarified that the actual number of illegally felled trees is 174.
During an inspection conducted by officials from the State Environmental Control Inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology, it was confirmed that a total of 174 trees and shrubs had been cut down along the roadside from the intersection of Nukus and Bobur streets in the Yakkasaray district, Tashkent. The environmental inspector filed the appropriate official reports, and the total estimated damage was calculated at 1,460,952,000 soums.
According to reports, the Tashkent city administration has taken personal control of the situation, emphasizing that strict legal measures will be applied to officials found responsible for environmental damage. The administration also noted that future cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology will aim to prevent such incidents within the city.
All documents collected by inspectors have been sent to the prosecution authorities to ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken in accordance with the law.
Additionally, the city administration announced that 62,100 shrubs and ornamental tree seedlings will be planted to replace the cut trees.
Witnesses cited by Rasul Kusherbaev stated that the trees were cut at night by the city's landscaping department following instructions from Tashkent Deputy Mayor Bakhtiyor Rahmonov to replace growing trees with new ones. This action violates the moratorium established under the Presidential decree.
