Tashkent district administration senior specialist detained while taking bribe

A senior specialist of the Housing and Communal Services and Landscaping Department of the Uchtepa district administration in Tashkent was detained while receiving $3,000. This was reported by the State Security Service.

According to the report, an оператив operation was conducted jointly by officers of the Tashkent City Department of the State Security Service and the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the capital. During the operation, the senior specialist of the Uchtepa district administration’s Housing and Communal Services and Landscaping Department was caught red-handed while illegally receiving $3,000 from an entrepreneur, with material evidence seized.

The official allegedly claimed that a list of retail shops and other facilities subject to demolition in Uchtepa district was being compiled this year. Using this pretext, he demanded money from the entrepreneur in exchange for ensuring that the latter’s shop would not be included in the list and would not be demolished, allegedly through his close connections with senior officials in the district administration.

It was reported that a criminal case has been opened against the senior specialist under Article 168, Part 3, Subparagraph “v” (fraud) and Articles 28 and 211, Part 1 (bribe-taking) of the Criminal Code. A pretrial detention measure has been applied, and investigative actions are ongoing.

It is worth noting that earlier in Andijan region, an internal affairs officer and a university manager were detained while taking a bribe after promising to raise the exam grade of a fellow student who had received a low score.
