Tashkent deputy mayor caught taking bribe

A deputy mayor in Tashkent was caught accepting a bribe, the State Security Service reported.

The deputy mayor of one of the neighborhood citizens’ assemblies in Nurafshan city, Tashkent region, promised a resident of Tashkent city that, through his official contacts, he would secure a job for him at the Tashkent regional branch of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, in exchange for $2,000.

Officers from the State Security Service of the Tashkent region, together with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, caught the deputy mayor while receiving the requested money through his contacts.

It was noted that he had previously been convicted several times.

A criminal case has been opened against him under Article 168, Part 3, Clause “b” (fraud), Article 28 (types of participants in a crime), and Article 211, Part 1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, and he has been placed in pre-trial detention.

Investigations are ongoing.

It is worth noting that previously, traffic police officers were also caught taking bribes.
