The temporary detention centers in the Chinaz, Kibray, and Yukari Chirchik districts of Tashkent region have been closed, the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis reported.
In June 2025, the Ombudsman’s regional representative in Tashkent region, together with public monitoring groups, carried out inspections of temporary detention centers in the Kuyi Chirchik and Chinaz districts under the Internal Affairs Department. Following these visits, a formal presentation highlighting identified shortcomings was submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Ombudsman’s office said that corrective measures were taken to address the issues found during the monitoring. In the Kuyi Chirchik detention center, a ventilation system and radio communication devices were installed, while cells were equipped with necessary furniture and facilities. The exercise yard and sanitary facilities, including toilets and showers, were repaired to meet hygiene standards.
At the same time, the activities of detention facilities in Chinaz, Kibray, and Yukari Chirchik districts, which failed to comply with sanitary and hygiene requirements for detainees, were terminated by an order of the Minister of Internal Affairs dated July 21, 2025.
Earlier, the head of the Temporary Detention Facility in the Izboskan district of Andijan region was dismissed after it was revealed that prisoners held there were subjected to forced labor.
