Today, 7 November, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili.

Issues of further expansion of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and this prestigious specialized intergovernmental structure of the United Nations were on the agenda of the meeting.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan has been a member of the UNWTO since 1993.  In the past period, important initiatives and joint programs aimed at realizing the great potential of the network and promoting the tourism brand of Uzbekistan at the international level were implemented.  The regional office of the Organization on the Great Silk Road is operating in the country.

In the following years, the partnership became significantly more active.  Today, joint preparations are underway to hold the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in 2023.

In the interview, Zurab Pololikashvili highly appreciated the results of the reforms aimed at the development of modern tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan, including the creation of favorable conditions for the implementation of business initiatives that serve the qualitative growth of external and internal tourism indicators.

Adoption of the "roadmap" for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNWTO, promotion of Uzbekistan's tourism brand, effective information campaigns, training of highly qualified personnel, and implementation of other important projects - it was agreed to include events.
