3821President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the “Medeu” Mountain Ski Cluster. This was reported by the Presidential Press Service.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev was informed about the history and architectural features of the “Medeu” Dam, built at an altitude of 1750 meters above sea level to protect against mudslides and floods.
The dam is connected to the top by the “Health Steps,” consisting of 842 stairs. In 2011, a 4.5-kilometer-long cableway was constructed near the dam, leading to the “Shymbulak” ski resort.
The “Medeu” sports complex, built in 1972, is situated at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level. The ice rink of the complex covers an area of 10,500 square meters and can accommodate up to 3,000 people at a time. Every year, more than 400,000 visitors come to the site.
Today, the complex operates as a hub for sports, tourism, and culture, hosting sports competitions, public ice skating, cultural events, and festivals regularly.
The venue has previously hosted the VII Asian Winter Games in 2011 and the World University Games (Universiade) in 2017.
During the visit, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan watched demonstration performances by young figure skaters.
Later today, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are scheduled to hold an informal meeting. The agenda includes discussions on expanding practical cooperation in trade, industrial collaboration, transport and logistics, energy, agriculture, and water management, as well as continuing active regional connections and cultural-humanitarian exchanges.
