President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt with a visit to the heritage of Ahmad Farghani.

It is known that this great compatriot was an accomplished astronomer, mathematician, and geographer of his time, he conducted scientific research in Baghdad and Damascus, and from 856 he lived in Cairo and studied science in Egypt until the end of his life.

The scientist made many important discoveries.  For example, in 861, he built a structure measuring the water level on Ravza Island in the Nile River.  Known as the “Miqyos an-Nil” facility, this device was very important in agricultural and climate assessment. The structure was used continuously for almost 1200 years until the last century.  Today it has been turned into a tourist destination.

In 2007, a statue of Ahmad Fargani was erected in the alley near the “Miqyos an-Nil” facility. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid tribute to the memory of our great thinkers by laying a wreath at his feet.

Then the head of our state inspected the “Miqyos an-Nil” facility and talked with scientists about its history, and Ahmed Farghani's contribution to science.  It was noted that the legacy of the great scholar, which has been preserved to this day, and the place of Uzbeks in the history of Egypt in general, is evidence of the eternal friendship between our peoples.
