Mirziyoyev congratulates new German Chancellor

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has congratulated Friedrich Merz on his election as Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and extended his best wishes. The announcement was made on May 7 by Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov.

In his congratulatory letter, the Uzbek leader expressed confidence that, under Chancellor Merz's leadership, Germany will continue to strengthen its role as a leading democratic and economically developed nation on the global stage.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan prioritizes the deepening of multifaceted and long-term relations with Germany, which is regarded as a traditional, time-tested, and important partner within the European Union.

"I am confident that through our joint efforts, our partnership in the fields of the green economy, investments, infrastructure, technology, education, healthcare, ecology, and other key areas will rapidly grow and reach an entirely new level in the future," the President's letter stated.

It should be recalled that on May 6, the Bundestag elected the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, as Chancellor of Germany in the second round of voting. Merz received 310 votes in the first round—six short of the required 316—and secured 325 votes in the second round.
