On October 24, during his official visit to Brussels, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with King Philippe of Belgium at the Laeken Palace. The President’s press service reported the news.

It was noted that the parties discussed further expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. They also exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues of mutual interest.

King Philippe highly praised the outcome of the Uzbek leader’s talks with EU officials and sincerely congratulated him on the signing of the historic Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation with the European Union.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the consistent development of Uzbekistan–Belgium relations. Active dialogue has been established at the ministerial level, regular political consultations are being held, and friendship groups have been formed in the parliaments of both countries.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation is also strengthening. Sister-city relations have been established between Tashkent and Kortrijk, as well as Samarkand and Liège. A bust of the great scholar Abu Ali ibn Sina has been unveiled in Kortrijk.

Mutual trade turnover is increasing, and Belgian companies are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, particularly in the textile, logistics, and service sectors. Last year, the Chamber of Commerce of the Benelux countries opened in Tashkent.

During the meeting, the importance of organizing visits by Belgian business representatives to Uzbekistan and holding joint cultural events was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan invited King Philippe to pay a visit to Uzbekistan.
