Uzbekistan will allocate 690 billion soums ahead of Eid al-Adha to support vulnerable groups, treat seriously ill patients and improve mosques and cemeteries. This is outlined in President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s resolution “On state support for the population and the effective organization of charity and compassion events on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha,” published today, May 22.

According to the document, large-scale charity and social support measures will be carried out by the state in connection with Eid al-Adha. In particular, surgeries will be performed on 10,000 children suffering from serious and disabling diseases. In addition, 2,300 patients diagnosed with oncological, hematological and oncohematological diseases will undergo medical examinations, treatment and surgery. Liver and kidney transplant surgeries will also be performed on at least 350 patients.

Under the resolution, cash awards of $200 will be transferred to the savings accounts of orphans, children deprived of parental care, children raised in Mehribonlik homes and SOS Children’s Villages, children of servicemen who died while defending the homeland, and children receiving treatment at Taskin Children’s Hospice.

In addition, modern ablution facilities will be built, reconstructed and repaired at 500 mosques. Public clean-up campaigns will also be launched to improve cemeteries, sacred sites and pilgrimage places across the country.

The document states that all measures will be financed through the Vaqf Charitable Public Foundation using funds from state targeted funds and other sources not prohibited by law. The costs of medical examinations, surgeries and treatment will be covered at medical institutions designated by the Ministry of Health. Donor-related expenses will also be financed by the state.

Under the resolution, territorial councils will be established in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions and Tashkent. They will coordinate charity events, improvement works and the targeted delivery of social assistance.
