Namangan construction inspectorate officer caught with bribe

Two individuals in the Fergana region have been apprehended for soliciting bribes in exchange for resolving certain issues, the State Security Service reported.

According to the information, the head of a district gas supply department abused his official powers by demanding $1,000 from each of 10 households, a total of $10,000, for connecting them to a high-pressure natural gas network. During an operational raid, the official was caught while receiving the requested money through an acquaintance.

According to the State Security Service, although the head of the district gas supply department had previously been convicted, he failed to learn from his past mistakes. A criminal case has now been opened against him under Article 210 (bribery), part 2, clause ’’v’’ of the Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody as a preventive measure, and investigative actions are underway.

In another case, the chief specialist of the regional Inspectorate for construction and housing and communal services in the Fergana region abused his official position. He demanded $5,000 in exchange for formalizing documents of unfinished buildings on a 0.04-hectare plot in the Kuva district through his acquaintances working in the cadastral, architectural, and other relevant organizations. The specialist was detained with material evidence while receiving an advance payment of $1,000.

A criminal case has been initiated against him under Articles 25 and 168 (fraud), part 3, and Articles 28 and 211 (bribery), part 1, of the Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody as a preventive measure.

It is worth noting that during an open dialogue with entrepreneurs in the construction sector held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on August 29 of this year, Usmonjon Abdusamadov, who introduced himself as the head of several construction companies, claimed that expenses for a single house in Tashkent reach up to $200,000, while in Tashkent region they amount to about $100,000. He also urged officials to address the issue of applications being unjustifiably rejected. Following this, the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services submitted an official request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, asking that Abdusamadov be held accountable in accordance with the law and that a legal assessment be made of his actions.
