Gambling den operators in Fergana attack police officers

A group involved in operating an illegal gambling den in Fergana region attacked police officers with axes and knives during an arrest operation. This was reported by the Fergana Regional Department of Internal Affairs.  

On January 18, 2025, an operational event was conducted by officers from the Fergana Regional Department of Internal Affairs. During the operation, authorities discovered that a man born in 1985, a resident of the Soykeldi neighborhood in Kuva district, had organized a gambling den in his apartment.  

The individual had reportedly attracted nine people from the Andijan region and Kuva district to participate in the illicit gambling activities.  

Despite the suspects’ active resistance using axes and knives to confront the police, all were detained at the scene.  

Authorities seized over 17 million sums, 200 U.S. dollars, and 35 rubles, along with gambling paraphernalia including 8 oşık and 25 oşık cups. These items were collected as material evidence.  

An investigation is currently underway regarding the case.  

This attack follows a previous incident in July 2024, when a police inspector was assaulted during a night shift in Khorezm.
