The chief of one of the customs checkpoints in the Ferghana region has been arrested for bribery, the State Security Service reported.
It was stated that the officer abused his position by demanding $5,000 and one iPhone 16 Pro from a citizen in exchange for illegally allowing 80 iPhone 16 devices brought from Kyrgyzstan without proper documentation to pass through the checkpoint.
As a result of a swift operation by the State Security Service, the lieutenant colonel of the customs service was apprehended red-handed while receiving the requested amount of money and the phone.
A criminal case has been initiated against the officer under Article 210 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code, and pre-trial detention has been imposed.
Earlier, the chief specialist of the preschool and school education department was caught taking a $2,000 bribe in Ferghana, and the head of the Emergency Situations Department of Shakhrisabz district, Kashkadarya region, was arrested with a $3,500 bribe.
