A new version of the traffic rules will be introduced in Uzbekistan

Hereinafter, in busy and densely populated areas of Tashkent and Nukus cities, as well as in regional centers, it will be possible to drive at an increased speed, at a level of 60 kilometers per hour. This is stated in the Road Traffic Regulations and approved by the relevant decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the document, the speed of traffic in settlements will be permitted up to 70 kilometers per hour, up to 30 kilometers per hour on roads around schools and preschools at distances of up to 300 meters, in residential areas and adjacent areas (on the plots of land between residential buildings) up to not more than 20 kilometers per hour.

At the same time, by the decision of the Republican Commission on road traffic safety, established by the decree PQ-190 of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 4 April 2022, in high-traffic and densely populated areas of Tashkent and Nukus, as well as in regional centers, high speeds can be set at 60 kilometers per hour.

Carriage by car is also permitted if the height of the load in the boot fixed to the roof is not more than 1m (except for the carriage of bicycles with special devices) and the length does not exceed 0.5m from the dimensions of the car.  In addition:

- lorries must only drive on the right side of the road, except in certain cases specified in the Road Traffic Regulations;
- it is forbidden to stop at turning points and in less than 30 meters or stop by up to 30 meters;

In the dark and in poor visibility conditions, cyclists traveling on the carriageway without a bicycle lane must wear a light-reflective jacket or clothing with light-reflecting elements.

The update of traffic rules will come into force on 1 May 2022.
