Now the cities of Samarkand and Namangan are subject to the Cabinet of Ministers

The President suggested transferring the cities of Samarkand and Namangan to the republic as separate administrative-territorial units.  The head of state said this in his address to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis today, 20 December.

“I want to put forward another important initiative within the framework of administrative reforms.  By now, there are 7 cities in Central Asia with more than a million inhabitants.  Along with the capitals, other large cities are becoming “growth points” in our region.  Among them are the cities of Samarkand and Namangan.  Each of them has a population of one million.  In both cities, great creative work is being done.  The city of Samarkand has become a world-famous metropolis, an international tourism and business center.  Namangan is also finding its place as a regional center in the fields of industry, entrepreneurship, education, and culture.  Therefore, I propose to transfer the cities of Samarkand and Namangan to the republic as separate administrative-territorial units,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to him, next year the cities of Samarkand and Namangan will be under the Cabinet of Ministers.

Now, governors of these regions are required to work not only with big cities, but also to improve conditions in districts.

Both city development programs are approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Prime Minister is directly responsible for their implementation.
