Authorities crack down on energy fraud across Uzbekistan

On May 15, workgroups led by Deputy Prosecutor General Shohrukh Aminov uncovered 3.4 billion UZS worth of energy theft and misuse as part of ongoing efforts to reduce transmission losses, promote energy conservation, and prevent resource plundering. The findings were reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

Authorities identified 339 cases of energy loss and 547 instances of theft, prompting urgent action to improve infrastructure. As a result:

  • 9 gas distribution points were replaced, and 285 were repaired;
  • 1,225 households transitioned to a two-stage system;
  • 3,817 gas meter batteries were replaced;
  • 2,100 faulty gas meters were reconnected;
  • 15 new transformers were installed;
  • 225 km of networks and 290 transformer stations were repaired;
  • 21 km of overloaded transmission lines were updated.

Additionally, 12 individuals were held administratively and disciplinarily responsible, with four criminal cases launched.

Earlier, a farm manager in Sharof Rashidov District, Jizzakh Region, was found guilty of misusing 4.739 billion UZS worth of electricity.
