9989Uzbekistan’s weather during the upcoming New Year holidays will be mostly dry and mild, according to data published by Uzgidromet for December 30 to January 1.
On December 30, some areas of the country may experience precipitation, including parts of the Tashkent region during the night of December 31. In the plains, this will mostly fall as rain, while snowfall is expected in foothills and mountainous regions, as well as in northern parts of the republic.
However, most of Uzbekistan will enjoy dry weather throughout the day on December 31 and January 1.
Temperatures from December 30 to January 1 are forecast to range from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius at night and 5 to 10 degrees during the day, with some areas reaching up to 12 degrees. In northern regions, nighttime temperatures will drop to 3-8 degrees below zero, with daytime highs of 0-5 degrees.
Climate data indicates that Uzbekistan's winters have become increasingly mild in recent years, with rain or wet snow often replacing traditional snowfall in plains and foothill regions. Over the past decade, most New Year celebrations in the country have taken place without snow.
The last notably snowy New Year’s Eve was in 2007, when snow fell between December 31 and January 1. Snow also lingered into the New Year holidays in 2011-2012, creating picturesque scenes in many cities and villages.
In contrast, the coldest New Year’s Eve on record in Tashkent occurred in 2014, with temperatures dropping to -9°C. Historically, the lowest temperature recorded on New Year’s Eve in the capital was -27.5°C in 1889.
Unusually warm weather has also been observed during some New Year holidays, with daytime temperatures occasionally reaching 16-19°C, as was the case on January 1, 2024.
