Bahadir Nizomovich Kurbanov, recently appointed as the head of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, has been promoted to the rank of Colonel General. This was reported by UzA.
Kurbanov served as the Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan from February 11, 2019, until his recent appointment.
For reference, Bahadir Kurbanov was born in 1969 in the Jizzakh region. He entered the Higher Investigative School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan in 1990 and later attended the Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1992.
From 1994 to 1996, Kurbanov worked as an investigator and senior investigator in the Jizzakh Investigative Department. In 1996, he became an operational officer in the Anti-Illegal Currency Transactions Department within the Anti-Corruption, Racketeering, and Terrorism Division. He later advanced to roles such as senior investigator and operational officer in various subdivisions of the same department. In 1999, he was appointed Deputy Head of the 3rd Department of the Anti-Corruption, Racketeering, and Terrorism Division in the Regional Internal Affairs Bureau. Additionally, he served as Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation and Counterterrorism Department in Jizzakh.
In 2002, Kurbanov became the head of the Jizzakh District Internal Affairs Department and later led the Internal Affairs Department of Gallaorol District in 2005. In 2008, he served as the first deputy head of the Main Patrol Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs before being appointed head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Namangan Region.
From December 24, 2013, to December 27, 2015, Kurbanov was Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. In 2015, he assumed the position of head of the Tashkent Main Department of Internal Affairs. On January 14, 2017, he was awarded the rank of Major General. From February 12, 2018, to February 11, 2019, Kurbanov served as the commander of the Tashkent Military District.
It is worth noting that following Abdusalom Azizov's dismissal as head of the State Security Service, Bahadir Kurbanov was appointed to this role. Simultaneously, Shukhrat Gayratjonovich Kholmukhammedov, the First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff was appointed as the Minister of Defense.
