A case of extortion has been uncovered in the Andijan region during an operation conducted by the Organized Crime Control Department of the Andijan Regional Internal Affairs Department and officers of the Altynkul District Internal Affairs Department. The incident came to light following a complaint filed by a local resident, according to the regional Internal Affairs Department.
The investigation revealed that a man, born in 1983, filed a complaint regarding a romantic relationship he had with a woman. Another individual, who learned of the relationship, contacted the complainant’s family and threatened to shame him publicly. In exchange for silence and withdrawal of the complaint, the suspect demanded $7,000.
The suspect was caught red-handed by law enforcement officers while receiving the extorted money. Material evidence was seized at the scene.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 165 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code, and a pre-trial investigation is currently underway under the jurisdiction of the Altynkul District Internal Affairs Department.
It is worth noting that a similar case occurred earlier in Tashkent, where an individual was arrested for threatening a metro employee and attempting to extort money.
