In Khorezm, despite significant economic changes, 45,000 people remain unemployed. This was revealed during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 2, where the focus was on the region’s socio-economic priorities.

President Mirziyoyev described Khorezm as a crossroads where historical legacy meets modern reforms. He acknowledged the logistical challenges and limited natural resources of the region but highlighted that 2024 was designated the "Year of Small and Medium Business," leading to notable advancements. Over the past year, 7,000 new entrepreneurs started their businesses, 47 enterprises expanded from small to medium-sized firms, and more than 10 entrepreneurs reached a turnover exceeding 200 billion UZS. As a result, 290,000 people gained employment in Khorezm.

However, poverty remains at 12%, and 45,000 citizens are still unemployed. The region currently has only one company with an annual turnover exceeding 1 trillion UZS.

In response, local authorities and district governors have been urged to convert every possible opportunity into projects that create jobs. Officials have been tasked with accelerating development in key areas such as industrial growth, service sector expansion, tourism development, agricultural improvement, and boosting export capacity. Efforts must also focus on resolving social and infrastructure challenges to ensure broader economic stability.
