In Uzbekistan, the practice of automatically turning off electrical equipment in houses when it is overused has been temporarily stopped. This was announced by the press secretary of the Minister of Energy.

There are reports on social networks about electricity supply disconnection to houses that used more than 4.5 kilowatt hours of electricity.

So, where did this practice originate?

It is known that, based on Clause 63-4 of the regulations adopted by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on January 12, 2018, No. 22, in order to rationally use consumed electricity, the electricity consumption of household consumers is limited by load. This control is exercised by "Territory Electric Networks" JSC within the framework of the automated accounting system. The limitation is planned to be within the range of 10-15 kW through the meter, based on the minimum power of devices needed for consumers' needs and their location.

Therefore, stating 4.5 kilowatt hours per hour is a misinterpretation of this clause.

"It should be noted that this practice is used in high-consumption areas, and if the consumer turns off the excess equipment and reduces the voltage from the specified norm, the meter will automatically turn on within 15 minutes," the report said.

However, this norm was temporarily canceled to support consumers during cold weather days. Hence, when the owner of an apartment uses electricity in excess of the specified rate, the meter will not be automatically turned off.

"Dear consumers, we ask you to avoid using unnecessary and redundant electrical equipment as much as possible, to save electricity, and to turn off unnecessary energy," the message reads.

Please note that if the electricity in your home is out due to overload, after you reduce the load, the power supply will be restored automatically within 10-15 minutes.

“By the way, do you know how many electrical appliances would need to be on to use 15 kilowatts per hour? For example, to consume 15 kWh of electricity, 6 refrigerators, 3 air conditioners with an average power of 1.5 kW, and 3 electric ovens should be on at the same time for one hour. The consumption of 3 televisions and 20 light bulbs can be only 1.5-2 kWh. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason for 98 percent of the population to worry," says the press secretary of the Minister of Energy.
