In the Bukhara region, a 20-year-old man (born in 2005) had five metallic safety pins and six nails surgically removed from his stomach. This was reported by the Bukhara branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care.
The man initially visited the center complaining of nausea, severe pain in the epigastric area, and difficulty swallowing. He revealed that he had swallowed multiple safety pins and nails two days earlier.
According to the statement, “The patient is under psychiatric supervision.”
Further examination, including radiographic imaging, revealed numerous metallic foreign objects in his stomach and duodenum. An FGDS (fibrogastroduodenoscopy) test identified a cluster of metallic objects, measuring 2x5 cm, located in the stomach's pyloric section near its greater curvature.
The medical team promptly performed a successful endoscopic procedure to remove the objects. Using special endoscopic forceps and hooks, they carefully extracted the five safety pins and six nails from the patient’s stomach and duodenum in stages.
The report noted that the patient’s condition has since improved, and the pathological issues in his gastrointestinal tract have been resolved.
As a related note, it was previously reported that doctors in the Fergana region had removed 135 magnetic beads from the stomach of a 2-year-old girl. The child had swallowed the beads while playing with them, which eventually gathered in her stomach, posing a serious threat to her life. The surgeons successfully operated to remove the magnetic objects.
