Individuals detained for attempting to sell low-quality medicines worth 8 billion soums

Individuals who allegedly stored and intended to sell medicines and medical products with no quality guarantee and expired shelf lives, with a total value of nearly 8 billion soums, have been detained. This was reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the department, during an operation conducted by its Qibray district division together with other law enforcement agencies, citizen Sh.Sh. was found to be storing medicines and medical products with no quality guarantee and expired shelf lives worth a total of 7 billion soums at a house in the Zafarobod mahalla. The products were allegedly intended for sale.
In another case, in the city of Kokand, Fergana region, citizen M.A., who had previously been convicted, was found to be storing 18,473 boxes of medicines and medical products of 46 types, worth a total of 289.2 million soums, at a house on Mahmud Tarobiy Street. The products, which had no quality guarantee and were allegedly intended for sale, were seized as physical evidence.
During another operation in Kokand, citizen O.Sh. was found to be storing 1,925 boxes of medicines of 26 types, worth a total of 257.6 million soums, at the home of citizen M.B. The medicines did not have documents confirming their quality and were allegedly intended for sale. They were seized as physical evidence.
In addition, in Kashkadarya region, citizen D.A. was found to be storing 4,613 medicines and medical products of 154 types, worth a total of 262.5 million soums, in the basement of a house in the Qarluqbogot mahalla. The products had no quality guarantee and were allegedly intended for future sale. They were seized as physical evidence.
Criminal cases have been opened under Article 186-3 of the Criminal Code, which covers the production, preparation, acquisition, storage, transportation or sale of low-quality or counterfeit medicines or medical products for the purpose of sale, the sale of medicines or medical products outside pharmacies and their branches, as well as violations of the procedure for the retail sale by prescription of medicines containing potent substances.
Cases have also been opened under Article 251-1, which covers the production, distribution, advertising or display of materials promoting potent substances that are not narcotic drugs, their analogues or psychotropic substances, as well as the illegal circulation of such substances or toxic substances. Investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, individuals were detained in Fergana and Namangan regions for storing and attempting to sell illegal medicines worth more than 2 billion soums.
