Death toll from horrific traffic accident in Angren rises

On September 7, a traffic accident involving several vehicles occurred on the A-373 ’’Tashkent–Osh’’ international highway passing through the city of Angren in the Tashkent region. It was initially reported that seven people had died. However, it has now been confirmed that the death toll has risen. This was stated in a decree signed on September 9 by Khayrullo Bozorov, the governor of the Fergana region.
According to the document, 11 people lost their lives in the tragic accident in Angren. Six others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were hospitalized.
The decree instructs the deputy governors of the region and relevant organizations to verify the identities of the deceased, provide medical, financial, psychological, and other forms of assistance to their families and to those injured, and to organize all necessary measures related to the burial ceremonies. It was also noted that the injured are receiving medical care at the Angren city medical association.
It has been instructed to review the road transport infrastructure, study advanced international practices, and develop well-founded proposals for its improvement to prevent similar incidents in the future. Additionally, the rules governing cargo transportation are to be re-examined.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs earlier reported that on the day of the accident, seven people died, five were hospitalized, and four others received medical assistance and were discharged home.
A government commission was established under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov, comprising specialists from relevant state bodies to fully investigate the situation, provide assistance to the victims and their families, and give a legal assessment of the circumstances that led to the tragic consequences. It was announced that the details of the incident are being thoroughly examined.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 266, part 3 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules or rules of vehicle operation), and investigative measures are currently underway.
