Elevator malfunction in Tashkent leaves 11 injured

A terrifying incident occurred in a multi-storey building located in the Yangihayot district of Tashkent city, where an elevator malfunctioned, causing it to plummet at high speed. The incident resulted in 11 people sustaining injuries, three of whom remain hospitalized. The Press Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed the distressing event.

According to reports, the incident unfolded on June 18 around 4:15 p.m. within an elevator in a multi-storey building situated on Navroz Street, Yani Darkhan neighborhood. The elevator, descending from the top floor, suddenly accelerated due to a technical malfunction. As it neared the first floor, the automatic brake system failed, exacerbating the situation.

Tragically, 11 individuals who were inside the elevator at the time suffered varying degrees of minor injuries. They were swiftly transported to the Republican Emergency Medical Research Center for immediate medical attention.

As of now, eight of the victims have been discharged from the hospital, having received the necessary treatment. However, three individuals are still undergoing medical care to aid their recovery.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of elevator maintenance and the need for thorough inspections to ensure the safety of residents in multi-storey buildings. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.

Residents and authorities alike are expressing their concerns regarding elevator safety and calling for stricter regulations to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
