The deputy minister of foreign affairs has been appointed as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium

The new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium, Gayrat Fazilov, arrived in Brussels on the night of December 5, as reported by the "Dunyo" news agency.


Gayrat Fazilov assumed the role, replacing Dilyor Khakimov, who served as the ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, as well as the head of the representative offices of Uzbekistan in the European Union and NATO (headquarters in Brussels) from 2017 to 2023.


For reference, Gayrat Fazilov is a graduate of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has been part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs system since 1996, beginning his diplomatic service as an attaché in the department for cooperation with European countries. Fazilov held various positions in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan, and in the embassies of Uzbekistan in France and Belgium, as well as the mission under NATO. He served as the ambassador to Japan from 2018 to 2021.


Between 2015-2017 and 2021-2023, Fazilov served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. The diplomat is proficient in French and English.


As a reminder, other recent appointments include Karomidin Gadoyev as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia, Ravshan Usmanov as the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Great Britain, and Amirsaid Azamkhozhayev as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Poland.
