The President discusses Uzbekistan's membership in the organization with the Director of the WTO

Yesterday, on September 19th, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

During the meeting, they discussed the measures taken to facilitate Uzbekistan's early membership in the WTO.

 The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the significance of joining the organization in alignment with the medium and long-term development goals set by the country.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also addressed the preparation for the upcoming meeting of the working group and emphasized the need to enhance the capacity and skills of the specialists involved in the process.

The Director-General of the WTO highly praised the steps taken by Uzbekistan to become a WTO member.

"Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed confidence that the WTO Secretariat fully supports Uzbekistan's efforts and expects our country to join the organization in the near future. At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to accelerate preparations for the next working group meeting, enhance specialist qualifications, and align our legislation with WTO agreements and rules," stated the President's press service.
