The exteriors of old residential buildings that were built in Uzbekistan before independence, will be covered with basalt (building material that serves to keep noise and temperature at a moderate level.) This was announced yesterday, 23 January, at a video selector meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.

It is noted that today there are a total of 40,000 apartment buildings in the republic. About 31,000 of them were built before 1991.  Therefore, the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Economy together with the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional, and Tashkent city governments were tasked with covering the exterior facades of these 31,000 houses with basalt within two months.

In addition, it was announced that the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Economy will make it mandatory to use energy-efficient building materials and equipment in the construction of newly built multi-storyz buildings and social sector facilities.

According to the data, 13.2 thousand tons of basalt raw materials are produced in our republic today.  This is not even 30% of the annual need.
