The project of introducing amendments to the constitution is approved by Parliament in the first reading

The draft constitutional law “On amendments and additions to the constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan” will be submitted for public discussion.  The decision was adopted today 24 June, at a plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament).

At the following session of the Lower Chamber (Legislative Chamber), the MPs adopted in the first reading the draft law “On the introduction of amendments and additions to the constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

The chairman of the Constitutional Commission Akmal Saidov stated at the meeting that more than 60,000 proposals have been submitted by citizens.  He recalled that during the establishment of the constitution, in a few months 6,000 proposals were submitted by the citizens noting that the growth amounted to 10 times.

The Legislative Chamber also issued a relevant decision to bring the draft law to the public discussion.

It is stated in the decision that the draft constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On amendments and additions to the constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan” will be submitted for public discussion in the newspapers of “Xalq so’zi” (the word of the nation), “Народное слово” and on the electronic platform Meningkonstitiyam.uz.

In addition, according to the outcomes of the nationwide discussion held, the draft constitutional law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On amendments and additions to the constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan” prepared will be submitted to a referendum in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
